Mohammed Cherkaoui, professor of conflict resolution at George Mason University, says the complexities of Israel’s aggression on Gaza continue to grow, Al Jazeera reports.
“Someone in the Middle East is trying to provoke Hezbollah into a confrontation. It can be an exercise of managing one war by opening up a new one — from Gaza to Lebanon — which then could lead to a wider regional conflict,” Cherkaoui told Al Jazeera.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is running out of strategies, he noted. “He doesn’t have the upper hand in Gaza so he wants to maximise the support from the West,” he added.
