KARACHI, Feb 25: The Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, has said women could play an effective role by working side-by-side men for the country’s development, and urged for creating awareness among the women folk.

She was speaking as the chief guest at the certificates award distribution ceremony among students of different courses organized by the Bahbood Association at Shirin Jinnah Colony, said a statement on Saturday.

She said it was unfortunate for a society to there was no facility for learning any kind of skill.

Jalil said teachers who were imparting education to students both boys and girls without any remuneration deserved all appreciation.

She said well-to-do persons should also extend help to the deserving people.

Referring to the welfare activities being undertaken by the Bahbood Association, she said this would bring a positive change in society.

Referring to the Oct 8, 2005 devastating earthquake, she said many welfare associations played an important role in providing relief to the affected people and for which they deserved all appreciation.

She said a number of programmes could be arranged by the city government’s Department of Community Development with the cooperation of NGOs for increasing the pace of development activities.

Jalil said she would request City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for establishment of centres where training of different skills can be imparted.—APP
