Palestinian fighters continue to fire rockets into Israel from Gaza amid heavy Israeli bombardment of the territory by “air, land, and sea” that killed more than 160 people in the last 24 hours, the UN said in its latest situation briefing on the offensive.
Between Thursday and Friday afternoon, 162 Palestinians were reported killed and some 296 wounded, the UN said, citing figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry.
On Friday, severe flooding from water and sewage waste hit the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza due to damage sustained to a reservoir pumping station and seepage from a lagoon, the UN reports, adding that the situation “poses life-threatening risks of contamination and outbreak of communicable diseases”.
