Attacks on commercial vessels by Yemen’s Houthi group in the Red Sea are “completely unacceptable” and “must stop”, according to Germany’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Al Jazeera reports.

The Houthis have continued to target vessels they believe are linked to Israel in the Red Sea despite a US-led naval coalition in the waters meant to deter them.

The assaults have pushed more than a dozen major shipping firms, including Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd, to suspend operations in the strategic waterway and instead take much longer and costlier routes around southern Africa.
