KARACHI, Feb 24: Taking notice of public complaints, the Sindh Chief Secretary, Fazlur Rehman, has directed the civic authorities concerned to take steps for improving water, sewerage and sanitation system in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and other areas of Karachi.

He referred to the junction of Rashid Minhas Road and Shabbir Ahmed Usmani Road in Block-5, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, opposite Al-Nisa Hall, where owing to seepage of water supply line, a deep crater has developed, which remains filled with water and people often wash their vehicles. This trench had been causing hardship to motorists for the last one year.

The chief secretary has asked the DCO and KWSB officials to take steps for immediate repair of the leaking water supply line and levelling of the road and submit a compliance report within two days.

He also ordered removal of garbage heaps on Abul Hassan Aspahani Road near Women Islamic University and called for compliance report within two days.

He also took note of a complaint that a vast area near NIPA intersection behind Aziz Bhatti Park has come under water and ordered immediate corrective measures, saying that he would visit these areas next week to take stock of the situation.

He warned that the action would be taken against the officials for their slackness.

ROAD CLOSURE: Work on reconstruction of a section of a road from railway crossing in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 13-D to Sir Shah Suleman Road (Gala Restaurant) is being started from Feb 26 and would be completed by March 6.
