KARACHI, Feb 24: World Bank has denied remarks attributed to its Country Programme Coordinator for Pakistan, South Asia Region, Robert Floyd, on Kalabagh Dam in a news report.

A World Bank spokesperson on Friday, referring to a PPI report, said that in response to a letter written by advocate Fatehyab Ali Khan to the World Bank President, Paul Wolfowitz, in Washington, Mr Floyd had only written: “Thank you for your note of January 5, 2006 to Mr Wolfowitz. He (Mr Wolfowitz) asked that I reply on his behalf. We appreciate your sending the article Earthquake in the Offing at Kalabagh”. You (Mr Fatehyab) have provided a great deal of interesting information which I will pass to our technical teams.”

The spokesperson regretted that such a brief and simple response was entirely inaccurately published in the press report.—PPI
