The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has welcomed South Africa’s decision to file a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Al Jazeera reports.

The Jeddah-based OIC, which has 57 member states, called on the ICJ to respond swiftly to the action, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.

“OIC stressed that Israel, the occupying power, is committing a genocide by its indiscriminate targeting of [the] civilian population, killing and injuring tens of thousands of Palestinians, forcibly displacing them, preventing them from obtaining basic needs and humanitarian aid and destroying buildings, and health, educational and religious institutions,” the QNA cited the OIC as saying in a statement.
