British surgeon Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah has accused UK’s main political parties (Conservatives and Labour) of silencing dissent against Israel’s actions in Gaza. He believes they are not representing the will of the British people, who are increasingly uneasy with the UK’s unwavering support for Israel.

Sittah, who recently returned from Gaza after treating civilians, shares disturbing details about alleged use of white phosphorus by Israel in an interview with Middle East Eye.

He describes the characteristic burns and criticises the international community’s silence on this potentially illegal practice.

He feels frustrated by the lack of calls for an immediate ceasefire and questions the double standard applied to Palestinian casualties compared to those in other conflicts. He emphasizes the value of Palestinian lives and criticizes the “corporatisation of medicine” that puts profit before humanitarian aid.

Despite facing police questioning upon his return and fearing Israel’s long-term goals for Gaza, Sittah expresses his deep connection to the land and people. He emphasizes the rich tradition of Palestinian resistance and his own commitment to providing medical aid where needed.
