Israel’s Minister of Justice, Yariv Levin, said the court should not yet announce its decision on a controversial law that would limit Israeli courts’ power so as to not divide the public during “wartime”, Al Jazeera reports, citing the Times of Israel.

The law, passed by Israel’s parliament in July, bars Israeli courts from deliberating against government decisions on the basis of their “reasonableness”. Many government watchdogs oppose the law, which they say undermines democracy.

A recent leak of a High Court draft ruling showed the court plans to overturn the law.

“While our soldiers are fighting alongside each other on different fronts, and at a time when the entire nation is in pain over the loss of many soldiers, the people of Israel should not be split apart with disputes,” the Times of Israel quoted Levin as saying.
