KARACHI, Feb 23: The City Council in its meeting held on Thursday with Naib Nazim, Ms Nasreen Jalil, in the chair, elected a 3-member panel of its presiding officers.

According to the poll results, two posts of presiding officers went to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s backed Haq Parast group while the third one was clinched by Jamaat-i-Islami’s Al-Khidmat group.

Masood Mehmood of the Haq Parast group became the senior presiding officer of the house as he bagged the highest number of votes ie 92.

The other two elected as presiding officers are Ahsan Ahmed Siddiqui, also of the Haq Parast group, who secured 82 votes while Rafiq Ahmed of the Al-Khidmat group got 74 votes. In all 248 votes were cast as against the City Council’s total strength of 255.

Shortly after the poll results were announced, the naib nazim and convenor of the House, Ms Jalil, felicitated members and the newly elected presiding officers, saying that it was heartening to note that not a single vote was rejected and the elections were held in a cordial manner.
