GUJRAT, Feb 22: Three women of a family were subjected to severe torture by some officials of the A-Division police in Azizabad locality on Tuesday night.

Reports said a police team led by ASI Mustansar Husain Shah raided the house of Abdul Hakim to arrest his son, Qaiser. The police started beating women when they failed to arrest Qaiser. They beat three women so badly that one of them went into coma owing to head injuries.

The area’s people said Qaiser was involved in a case, but he was acquitted by the court following a patch-up with the complainant.

Soon after the incident, more than 1,000 people staged a protest rally and chanted slogans against the police. They marched towards the A-Division police station where they demanded registration of a case against the policemen responsible for this highhandedness.

Area nazim Tariq Sarmad and city DSP Mahmoodul Hasan reached the spot and negotiated with the protesters who dispersed peacefully following an assurance by the DSP that a strict action would be taken against the accused policemen.

Bashir Husain along with his sister-in-law Parveen and her son, Nasir, was going when a car hit their motorcycle. Parveen died on the spot, while Nasir sustained serious injuries.
