Bahawalpur dist council budget

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 21: The district council after a debate of two days approved Rs3,231.610 million tax-free budget for 2005-06 here on Tuesday.

Winding up the debate, the district nazim informed the house that 10 basic health units would be upgraded and provided with facilities of the hospitals. The district health centres would be provided with medicines worth Rs17 million. A medical centre for women would be established in Bahawalpur.

The nazim said the roads leading to Bahawalnagar and Vehari would be dualized.

RELEASE: Thirty-eight prisoners were released from the New Central Jail on Tuesday.

District and Sessions Judge Syed Ijaz Husain Shah had in the last couple of days reviewed their cases of petty nature. On his orders all formalities were completed after which they were set at liberty.

KILLED: Muhammad Nawaz, a railway gangman, was run over and killed by a Lahore-bound goods train at the Liaquatpur railway station on Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family.

POLLS: The annual election of the Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association will be held on March 20.

Nomination papers will be filed on March 8 and the very next day their scrutiny will be conducted. The last date for withdrawal will be March 10.

The election will be conducted by an election board, headed by Nazir Ahmad Bhutta.
