SAHIWAL, Feb 21: Remodelling of Lower Bari Doab Canal will start from July 1 with the World Bank assistance.
This was stated by an irrigation department spokesman here on Tuesday.
He said the Rs10 billion project would finish in 2012.
According to him, the canal has a capacity of 8,500 cusecs which would be enhanced to 15,000 cusecs after remodelling.
Three distributaries of the canal were also included in the project on the recommendations of the irrigation department, he added.
The distributors to be made ‘model canals’ were 2-L of Okara, 5-L of Sahiwal and 15-L of Khanewal, he concluded.
NURSES SCALES: The Punjab government has revised the pay scales of nurses working in the DHQs, THQs and other government hospitals in the province.
According to new pay scales, the nurses working in scale 14 would now be given scale 16 while the head nurses in scale 16 would be given scale 17.
A notification in this regard has been issued for immediate implementation.
ROBBERIES: Robbers in three separate incidents took away valuables worth around Rs450,000 on Monday night.
Four gunmen entered the house of Ejaz Khan in Chak 96/9-L, collected cash and other valuables worth Rs350,000 at gunpoint and fled from the scene firing shots in the air.
Arshad and his brother Aslam were deprived of Rs56,000 in cash on Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road near Chak 95/9L.
Naeem, Nawaz and his wife were deprived of cash and gold ornaments worth Rs50,000.
Meanwhile, unidentified men hired a taxi cab from Kamir town 120/9-L for going to Chichawatni. But they never reached their destination. No whereabouts of the cab and driver are known.
Police are investigating.
