Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Rafah, says heavy fighting is ongoing in Khan Younis between the Israeli army and Hamas fighters.
Khan Younis earlier came under heavy shelling in proximity to a UNRWA school where displaced people were sheltering. Footage broadcast by Al Jazeera Arabic shows the transfer of the bodies of Palestinians and their funerals near the Nasser hospital.
Mahmoud said some of the injured people released from the medical facility returned home only to find their buildings destroyed. Many have relatives still under the rubble as rescue operations are made difficult by the lack of equipment.
