LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has started the repair of the British-era Roshanai Gate and the work will be completed within a week’s time. The total cost of the project is around Rs1.8 million.
This gate is an important part of the historic city of Lahore and during British rule it played the role of providing access to important government and commercial centres here.
The gate had been closed for the last many decades due to security arrangements, but in 2021, it was partially opened to public and in 2023 it was completely opened.
From the Fort Road Food Street, this gate leads to the Hazuri Bagh, Badshahi Mosque, and Lahore Fort. The gate was previously repaired in 2022 but now more work is being done to fully open it to the public.
LDA: The Lahore Development Authority’s Town Planning Wing and the Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) joined forces on Thursday to conduct a targeted anti-encroachment operation around Shadman Main Boulevard and Civic Centre.
The three-hour long operation saw the sealing of several properties and the removal of encroachments that had been a persistent issue in the commercial areas around Shadman Main Boulevard and Civic Centre.
More than two dozen properties were sealed for encroaching on parking spaces in Shadman, and eight temporary illegal shops were demolished during the joint initiative.
The teams cleared encroachments, ensuring unobstructed right-of-way for Fatima Memorial Hospital. Notable establishments such as Swera Store, Breakout, and Broadway Pizza faced closure for encroachment in the setback area.
