KARACHI, Feb 21: An anti-terrorism court deferred on Tuesday the judgment in the rangers van attack case against two workers of the banned Jundullah. Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of ATC-2 fixed Feb 28 for the pronouncement of judgment.
Ataur Rehman and Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa have been prosecuted for attacking the rangers’ mobile van on March 19, 2004 under Baloch Colony Bridge in Ferozabad police area. A ranger sepoy, Ishtiaq Hussain, and a passerby, Kashif, were killed and Havildar Mohammad Muneer, Naik Mushtaq of the rangers and three passersby — Nawab, Maqbool and Maqsood — were injured in the incident.
PRISONERS’ VAN CASE: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 adjourned till Wednesday the hearing of the prisoners’ van firing case against five workers of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after partial cross-examination of the investigation officer.
DSP Faisal Noor was till being cross-examined by defence counsel Amir Mansoob Qureshi when the court rose for the day.
Five workers of the banned sectarian outfit have been charged with killing a constable and an under trial prisoner during an attack on a prisoners’ van.
Mohammed Faisal alias Faisal Pehalwan, Waseem Sabir, Mazhar Hussain, Mohammed Tassaduq and Muzammil Hussain were charged with attacking the prisoners’s van on Feb 28, 2002 near Bohra Pir in the Nabi Bux police limits.
According to the prosecution, the LJ men opened fire on the van which was carrying some undertrial sectarian workers to the Central Prison after producing them in the city courts. Police constable Mohammed Shakil and an undertrial prisoner, Saqib son of Meher Din, were killed in the attack. A dozen other UTPs were also injured in the incident.

JUDGMENT RESERVED: The judgment was reserved in an appeal preferred by Kamran Atif of the banned Harakat-ul-Mujahideen Al-Aalmi here on Tuesday by an Anti-Terrorism Appellate (ATA) bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jafferi, add APP.
He was tried and sentenced to life term, diyat of Rs 275,000, five years and Rs 50,000 fine by the ATC on charge of killing a women and possessing explosives.
