RAWALPINDI: The additional inspector general (AIG) of traffic police has directed all police officers and officials to wear helmets and carry their driving licence while riding a motorcycle or driving a car otherwise action would be taken against them.

On the other hand, the police campaign against underage drivers, bike riders without helmet, licence and smoke-emitting vehicles is underway.

AIG Mirza Farhan Baig said in a video message that driving licence of all police officials/officers will be checked.

He said all young people should also get their driving licences for which they would be facilitated in their colleges, universities and wherever they wanted.

Mr Baig warned that police officials spotted driving without driving licence will not only be subjected to challan but will also be facing departmental action.

The AIG traffic said he had complete statistics of police officials across the province who had been issued challans for not having a driving licence.

A police spokesman said following special orders from the AIG and the chief traffic officer Rawalpindi, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi continued its crackdown against underage drivers, riding motorcycles without wearing helmet and without driving licence.

He said 5,440 challans had been issued to underage drivers so far this year while 1,744 FIRs were registered, 52,514 challans issued for one-way violation, 21,329 to emitting vehicles and 114,184 to motorcycle riders without helmets. Moreover, 777 FIRs were registered against unlicensed drivers.

CTO Taimoor Khan issued instructions to all circle in-charges and sector in-charges to continue the special campaign.
