LAHORE, Feb 20: City police chief DIG Khwaja Khalid Farooq on Monday ordered an inquiry into the killing of a minor girl whose throat was slit open by a kite string on Sunday.
The DIG appointed SP Imtiaz Habib as inquiry officer who, in his initial report, said the death had occurred at 1am which usually was not a kite flying time. It might be possible that some wire or any sharp object had hit the girl and caused her death.
Mahnoor, 3, together with her father was on way home when the string hit her throat and she died before getting any first aid at the Services Hospital.
Meanwhile, the DIG ordered all SPs to take action against the violators of the ban on kite flying and manufacturing of metal and glass-coated string.
Nazim: District nazim Mian Amer has sought a report from the district police officer about the continuation of kite flying in the city despite a ban and loss of life and property on account of it.
Directing the DPO to submit the report within two days, the nazim has also directed him to ensure the enforcement of ban imposed by the Supreme Court on kite flying in letter and spirit.
Those violating the ban should also be proceeded against in accordance with the law.
