KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead by a mob on the outskirts of the city, off the National Highway, on Sunday, police said.

They added that the body of a man identified as Sartaj Mohammed, 30, with gunshot wounds was found near Saafi Chowk in Dur Mohammed Goth.

Shah Latif Town SHO Meraj Anwar, without providing details, said that the deceased was an alleged mugger, who was shot dead by a mob.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Teenager hurt as gun goes off

A teenager and his uncle were arrested after an ‘accidental’ gunfire wounded a teenage boy in Saddar on Saturday night, police said.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that Abdullah Javed was shot when a gun went off accidentally and the bullet hit him in the leg in Bohri Bazaar in Saddar.

He said Abdullah’s friend, identified as Nabeel Saleem, was playing with his uncle’s gun when it discharged and the bullet hit him.

The family of the wounded was reluctant to lodge an FIR. Thus Preeedy police registered a case against Nabeel and his uncle Faisal Hameed on behalf of the state.

The DIG said that there were strict rules regarding possession of a firearm and it was the responsibility of a licence holder to avoid its display and firing.
