KARACHI: In line with its ongoing election campaign, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan held a public meeting in Gulshan-i-Iqbal late on Saturday night and vowed to achieve its goal of an empowered local government system through the fresh democratic exercise.

A large number of people, including women and children, attended the public meeting.

Addressing the rally, senior party leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that MQM-P would talk and approach every democratic force to empower people of Pakistan at the grassroots level.

He criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party for ‘plundering’ national resources and revenue in the name of provincial autonomy during its 15-year rule in Sindh.

Former Karachi mayor and senior party leader Mustafa Kamal in his speech said that the MQM-P in this election campaign was focusing on reforms in local government system with full force to strengthen economy.

He referred to forming a “comprehensive constitutional” strategy to decentralise power.

The MQM-P leader insisted that to bring Constitution to its original shape, which would protect itself and common citizens, his party had made proposals for amendments to the Constitution.
