Martin Griffiths, the UN’s emergency relief coordinator, has said that “hopes were dashed” after fighting between Israel and Hamas resumed on Friday.
Calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, he said the people of Gaza “live surrounded by disease, destruction and death”, which he termed “unacceptable”.
“The situation in Khan Younis today is a shocking reminder of what happens” when guns do not fall silent, Griffiths stated.
