In a phone conversation with Al Jazeera, Osama Hamdan, senior spokesperson for Hamas, said that the “solution is not to have a truce [but] to find mechanisms to put an end to this occupation”.

“We are open to any efforts that aim to put an end to the aggression that benefits the interest of our people,” Hamdan said, extending his thanks to Egypt and Qatar for trying to “reach a formula to end the aggression”.

Hamdan said that Hamas’ leadership was cooperating with efforts to put an end to the aggression but that other than Qatar and Egypt, “some parties were not ready to exert more effort”.

He added that the “American administration” has not put a lot of pressure on Israel.
