Pakistan sailors win silver, bronze

KARACHI, Feb 18: The two Pakistani pairs of sailors maintained their ascendancy by finishing among top three in the Enterprise world championship which concluded at Negombo, near Colombo on Friday.

The pair of Lt Cdr Mamoon Sadiq – Abdul Hameed accumulated 38 points to finish runners up behind the UK pair. Lt Cdr Zahid Rauf – S Lt Rana Waqas settled for third place with 46 points.

Besides Pakistan, sailors from Great Britain, India, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, South Africa and the host Sri Lanka featured in the 45-boat competition. Pakistan had won many laurels in the Enterprise world championship in the past. However, the boat has been omitted from this year’s Qatar Asian Games.
