ISLAMABAD, Feb 18: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal said on Saturday that the temporary closure of the Danish embassy and recall of Pakistan’s envoy from Copenhagen would not dampen protests over blasphemous cartoons.

“We disagree with the policy of President Pervez Musharraf,” MMA spokesman Shahid Shamsi told AFP. “He should completely snap diplomatic relations with Denmark.”

The alliance vowed to continue protests if the government did not act on its demands.

“The protests will continue and we will hold a big demonstration in Islamabad on Sunday. If the government tries to stop it then it will be responsible for the consequences,” Mr Shamsi said. “We will hold a peaceful protest on Sunday despite the ban by administration and if government tries to create hurdles, we will not be responsible for any untoward situation,” he said.—AFP
