SELF-DEFENCE: For years, Israel has been hiding behind the facade of ‘right to self-defence’, and, in doing so, it has always received the backing of the West. The fact of the matter is that Israel has been committing the most unjustified aggression against defenceless Palestinians after having illegally and forcibly occupied their lands. The Palestinians have every right to oppose the occupation. They are freedom-fighters, not terrorists.

COMMITTEE CHOWK: The traffic chaos at Committee Chowk on Murree Road in Rawalpindi has gone worse with time. Motorcyclists and drivers flout every rule in the book and then some more. Traffic wardens prefer not to be anything but bystanders in uniform. There has been road encroachments in the area, but nobody seems to care. The authorities must wake up, and do something about it.

A LEGEND: It is difficult to sum up the life of Hakim Saeed, a person who was larger-than-life. It is a pity that the 25th anniversary of his death went unnoticed recently (Oct 17). He was a medical researcher, scholar, passionate patriot, a devoted human being, and a great philanthropist. It reflects badly on the nation. We should remember our heroes.

AMBULANCE ROUTE: It is disturbing to see ambulances getting stuck in traffic jams during peak hours. Some of them might be carrying patients to hospitals, or others might be going to pick patients from their homes. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route could serve as an alternative route for ambulances during rush hours so that they may reach their desired places in time. It would make a big difference and help save many a life. Time is of essence in emergency situations,and having a clear path through the BRT track would be a real game-changer.
