TAXILA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rao Atif Raza has said that special children are an important part of society and civil society should extend cooperation in the efforts towards mainstreaming them.
He expressed these views while speaking as a chief guest at the helping devices distribution ceremony among disabled students of Deaf and Defective School under Punjab special education department in Attock on Wednesday.
District Education Officer Special Education Rawalpindi and other officers were also present on the occasion. He added that it was the duty of every individual of the society to take care of the special persons, ensure their education and training and protect their rights. said that for the rehabilitation of special and differently-abled children, which government institutions or the Punjab government need cooperation.
He said that every child had the right to health facilities and other basic needs, including modern and quality education, and like other children, disabled children are being provided full opportunities to come forward in other fields of education.
Mr Raza on this occasion also advised the special children that they should not be constrained by any factor adding that they, like others, can serve their country and nation after attaining maximum education. He was of the view that if a disabled woman like Helen Keller could become a renowned author then Pakistani children could also bring laurels.
On this occasion, Mr Raza also visited the stalls set up by special children where various handmade items created and prepared by special children were displayed for exhibition.
