After an episode of ‘University Challenge’ received criticism for allegedly having anti-Semitic content due to a mascot featured in it, the BBC has clarified that it was recorded in March.

In a post on X, the BBC said it “utterly condemned the abuse that has been posted and shared” in response to the show.

Viewers had criticised the show for displaying an octopus toy, which they claimed was similar to an anti-Semitic trope found in Nazi propaganda. This coincided with one of the participants wearing clothes in the colours of the Palestinian flag.
