Trigger warning: Mention of rape may be disturbing to some

Police investigators have been collecting testimony from witnesses to acts of sexual assault and abuse allegedly committed by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Israel’s south, Haaretz reports.

An eyewitness told police in the past few days that she had seen the gang rape and murder of a young woman hiding from Hamas gunmen who were wearing military uniforms. “They bent someone over,” the witness said. “I realised he was raping her and passing her on to someone else also in uniform.”

The witness said that subsequently one of the rapists shot the young woman in the head, and several of the gunmen mutilated her body, Haaretz stated.

Another witness who has recounted the incident to police was a man who was hiding behind the eyewitness and did not see the rape. He said the eyewitness told him at the time what she saw.
