PESHAWAR, Feb 14: Additional District and Sessions Judge Ahmad Sultan Tareen has granted bail to a woman and her daughter charged with desecrating the Holy Quran.

The court pronounced that the two applicants deserved to be released on bail at this stage of the case.

The applicants, Nusrat and her daughter Sumera, stated that they were innocent and falsely implicated in the case.

The two ladies were charged by their neighbour, Mohammad Kareem, resident of Mohallah Essakhel, of committing the offence.

An FIR was registered against them at police station Daudzai on Jan 29 under sections 34 and 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant alleged that both the accused ladies were his neighbours and they were engaged in a brawl with his female family members. He claimed that the accused ladies brought a copy of the Holy Quran and during the quarrel defiled it.

The applicants’ counsel argued that the allegations against the women were baseless and the complainant wanted to settle personal scores with them. He added that there was no evidence on record to prove the involvement of the applicants in committing the offence.
