KARACHI, Feb 14: Traffic police on Tuesday banned the lifting of motorcycles from no parking zones by Suzuki pick-ups across the city. The decision was taken after frequent complaints of mismanagement and irregularities in the course of lifting of motorcycles and their subsequent return to their owners.

DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid said that complaints were received about mismanagement and the decision was taken to put a ban on it for an indefinite period.

Motorcycle owners complained that traffic police hired private Suzuki pick-ups and untrained staff to lift motorbike, which caused damages to motorcycles. The owners were not given compensation, rather they were misbehaved and abused when they complained of damages to their motorbikes.

Traffic police charge Rs100 to Rs150 per motorcycle as lifting charges besides imposing fine and no receipt was given to owners.
