GUJRAT: The Punjab government on Saturday posted SP Syed Asad Muzaffar as the district police officer of Gujrat.

This is the third time that the caretaker set-up has transferred the Gujrat DPO after taking over the reigns of the province.

Mr Muzaffar has been posted for the second time as the Gujrat DPO under the present setup.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab IGP, Gujrat DPO Ahmed Nawaz Shah has been transferred with immediate effect after serving in the district for six months and 10 days.

Official sources said an influential group in the PML-N had been showing some serious reservations over the posting of Ahmed Nawaz as the DPO.

They said the posting of Gujrat DPO had taken place after some background understanding between some key players within the leadership of PML-N and PML-Q.

They said that the new DPO might now carry on until the new provincial government came into being in February.Reports are rife about possibility of seats adjustment between the PML-N and PML-Q in Gujrat however the parties are yet initiate talks on the matter.

Outgoing DPO Ahmed Nawaz relinquished the charge on Saturday and attended a farewell meeting with the subordinate staff, particularly the DSPs, SHOs and heads of all the branches of the district police.
