KARACHI, Feb 13: The Nabi Bukash police arrested on Monday a group of minor boys for their involvement in motorcycle thefts in the old city areas. ASP of Garden Rai Ajaz told Dawn that the police had been receiving complaints from a particular area of Ranchore Line about motorcycle thefts.
Police started surveillance of the area and subsequently nabbed the suspects. The suspects were identified as Taufeeq, 12; Sultan, 12; Ali Raza, 13 and Abdul Samad, 15. The suspects used to steal motorcycles and park them in certain parking areas in different parts of the city.
Their ring leader, identified as Salman, used to collect the motorcycles from these parking lots and dispose them of.
According to the Garden ASP, police were making hectic efforts to arrest the ring leader of this gang. The youngsters have no criminal background, the ASP said, adding that they seemed to have fallen into the wrong hands.
ARRESTED: Police have arrested a member of a three-men gang for robbing expatriates coming through the airport in the small hours in the airport area disguised in different getups.
The Airport DSP said the police had recovered nine cellphone sims, five cellphone sets, fake police identity cards, a police uniform, police belts and several wigs from his hideout in Gulshan-i-Hadeed.
Earlier, police seized 45 grams charas, a pistol and a car when a suspect identified as Faraz Khan, in his mid-20s, was nabbed on Sharea Faisal. However, his two accomplices, identified as Shaukat Ali and Nadeem, also residents of Gulshan-i-Hadeed, fled.
Describing the way these suspects used to operate, DSP Haseeb Baig told Dawn that they often used to wear wigs which markedly changed their appearances during the holdups.
They used to hire vehicle from rent-a-car outlets and stuck a chewing gum at any of the digits of the registration number during the dacoity. After finishing the job they returned the vehicle after removing the chewing gum from the registration number. A number of the complainants robbed in the Airport area had identified the suspect, the DSP said.
