Constable arrested with 11kg hashish

SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 11: A-Division police claimed to have arrested a constable for his alleged involvement in drug pushing and also recovered contraband in huge quantity from his possession.

This was stated by DPO Aslam Tareen while talking to journalists here on Saturday.

The DPO said the police got information that accused constable Ishaq had set up a drug den in Street No 13 on Ghang Road locality.

He said a police party, led by ASP Ijaz Ahmed Khan and SHO Ghulam Farid, conducted a raid there and arrested constable and recovered from him 11kgs of hashish, 150 litres of liquor and Rs16,000 in cash.

The DPO said the arrested constable, posted at the Punjab Constabulary in Farooqabad, had been appointed on March 26, 1980. He said the constable was suspended from service on 2003 due to his bad character. After his reinstatement, he had again been suspended from service on Feb 16, 2005.

Mr Tareen disclosed that the accused constable was reinstated again only a weak back.

Further investigation was under way, the DPO said.

Meanwhile, the DPO said that A-Division police also busted a four-member gang of bandits.

He said two cars, as many tractors, 10 motorcycles, three pistols, a carbine and scores of cartridges were also recovered from the possession of arrested bandits — Pervaiz Iqbal, Shahzad, Qayyum and Safdar Iqbal.
