Drawings condemned

LAHORE, Feb 11; Publication of the blasphemous drawings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Denmark and other European countries was unanimously condemned in the monthly meeting of the Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Council here on Saturday.

The resolution condemning the publication of the drawings was moved by Mahmood Akhtar Butt, Haji Asim and Zulfiqar Mahmood at the council meeting held with Town Nazim Tariq Sana Bajwa in chair.

The council also condoled the death of a large number of mourners in suicide attacks on an Ashura procession in Hangu and expressed heartfelt sympathies with bereaved families.

Five monitoring committees were constituted for running the town affairs.

Addressing the council, the town nazim stressed the need for concerted efforts for removal of encroachments. He said that he imposed fines on the ‘rehriwalas’ but removal of encroachments was also necessary.

Protest: The Tanzim-i-Islami held a protest demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club on Saturday against blasphemous drawings published by some western papers.

The protesters, led by Dr Ghulam Murtaza and Mirza Ayub Beg, were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans.

They regretted that had the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) after publication of the drawings first by a paper issued a warning of severing diplomatic ties with Denmark, the media in the other western states would not have dared to re-publish them.

They held the Zions responsible for exploiting Christians’ power to destroy Muslims’ culture and economy.
