DRUG ADDICTION: The easy availability of narcotics, such as opioids and others, in Mashkay area of Balochistan province has destroyed the life of many a vulnerable individual. It is hard to get vegetables in Mashkay, but easy to get drugs. The local people have been in the clutches of a number of issues for years, but nothing like the menace of drugs. Those involved in this malicious business are so powerful that no one dares to raise their voice against them. The law-enforcement agencies must move into action immediately.

BOOKS FOR STUDENTS: The recent recruitment of a large number of teachers by the government of Sindh in the School Education and Literacy Department (SELD) is an appreciable step. However, government schools in the province have not been provided even 20 per cent of the actual demand of textbooks. This is sheer injustice to the students enrolled in government schools. As they belong to humble social backgrounds, most students and their parents are unable to buy the expensive books in these times of inflation. The authorities concerned should provide adequate number of books keeping in mind the number of enrolled students.

DIRTY CITY: There are piles of dirt and dumps of garbage across Turbat city in the province of Balochistan. Recently, I went to the vegetable market, or sabzi mandi, and was shocked to see the lack of cleanliness in the entire area. A stench from the piles of waste made the experience rather horrible. The unhygienic environment can cause serious ailments among the residents. The public as well as the authorities are equally guilty as the people throw garbage on the streets, and there is no proper cleaning arrangement put in place by the local administration. The people should behave like civilised citizens, and the authorities should improve the area’s sanitation system.
