ISLAMABAD: After receiving complaints regarding Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC), Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap), health minister Dr Nadeem Jan has directed the three entities to establish one-window cells for early redressal of complaints.

Talking to Dawn, the minister said the directions were issued to ensure transparency in the entities.

“A number of healthcare workers filed applications for their registration and some firms submitted applications for registration of medicines. However, their applications were delayed. There can be flaws or mistakes in applications but allegations have been levelled against these entities,” he said.

“I have directed Drap, PMDC and PNC to establish one-window cells, give remarks on every applications and also mention flaws in the applications,” he said.

According to a statement, Dr Jan directed PNC to establish one-window cell for paramedics registration and ensure reforms in the council.

He issued instructions to improve the performance of the PNC. The minister directed to take immediate steps for digitisation of the nursing council.

He said lady health workers should be brought under Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council. There should be a focal person for Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council to ensure communication and consultation with HEC in matters related to curriculum.

The minister said the ministry of health will provide assistance in preparation of regulations under PNMC Act 2023. International organisations should be contacted for technical support to PNMC, he said.

“Effective steps should be taken to increase the number of nurses in hospitals according to international standards. A comprehensive strategy is being devised to enhance the efficiency of nurses. Special steps will be taken regarding the education and career planning of nurses,” Dr Jan said.

He said that nursing was the backbone of the health sector. Practical steps are being taken for the improvement of the nursing sector.
