Published February 12, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: The Central Board of Revenue has amended the sales tax return forms to facilitate the filing of returns. The amended improved version of sales tax return forms are placed on the CBR website: www.cbr.gov.pk, according to a notification issued here on Saturday.

The CBR has already extended the e-filing facility to the taxpayers of sales tax and federal excise.

These forms will help the taxpayers identify their respective collectorate and fill in the returns properly. The system will also help the banks and tax collectors process the returns efficiently and accurately.

The salient features of improved return forms included: identification of relevant collectorate for banks and mailing server to forward the return/challan to the respective collectorate; utilities like electricity, phone and gas can be entered separately; and input/output value fields limit increased to accommodate value up to Rs99 billion.

Under the new forms, the default tax rate can be changed if so required; validation checks have been incorporated for proper data entry; interactive messages for the taxpayers for filling/preparing the returns, etc.

For further facilitation of the taxpayers, all the frequently asked questions relating to e-filing of returns and their appropriate replies have also been placed on the website. The CBR has requested all the users of e-filing facility to utilize the improved version of sale tax return forms for filing of their returns electronically.
