NAWABSHAH: A woman gave birth to twins on the floor of labour room in Kandiaro taluka hospital in Nausharo Feroze district on Monday in pathetic conditions and hence the newborns died soon afterwards as there were no doctors and paramedics to take care of them.

Sources said that Ms Hina wife of Naveed Ali Kaleri was brought to the hospital in severe labour pains but there was no lady doctor or paramedic to attend to her.

The hospital’s medical superintendent took notice of the incident and wrote a letter to Naushahro Feroze district health officer asking him to conduct an inquiry against the staff including gynaecologists Dr Saima Bano, Dr Shakeela, senior woman medical officer Dr Sanam, woman medical officer Ms Saeeda Bano, senior nurse Ms Shehar Bano, staff nurse Ms Zahida, midwife and sweeper Ms Rasheedan, who remained absent from their duty and caused loss of two lives.

The letter said that the staff was irregular and non-punctual and was not ready to perform their duties honestly and diligently despite several warnings.

DG Health Sindh takes notice

The committee is headed by Dr Sohrab Hisbani, deputy DG Health Sindh; with Dr Shahnaz Malik, gynaecologist at Naushahro Feroze Civil Hospital and the assistant commissioner Kandiaro as members.

Director General Health Sindh has taken notice of the death of newborn twins in the Kandiaro taluka hospital and constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe the incident and submit report within three days.
