HYDERABAD, Feb 10: Protest rallies were held throughout Sindh after Friday prayers to condemn publication of sacrilegious sketches of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in European newspapers.
In Hyderabad, rallies were held by religious parties and attended by hundreds of people.
The Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan brought out a big procession from the Phulelli Tanga stand which terminated at the press club after marching through various roads. The protesters burnt flags of some European countries.
Speaking on the occasion, MMA central leader, MNA Khair Mohammad Zubair, said that the publication was a direct challenge to Muslims.
He said a call to march towards Islamabad would be given if ambassadors of Denmark and other European countries were not thrown out of Pakistan.
JUP leader MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput said that Pakistan did not need Gen Pervez Musharraf but a brave general who could declare jihad against the United States and Jews.
The district president of the MMA, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi, gave a three-day ultimatum to the government to expel the ambassadors otherwise people would march towards Islamabad.
The Jamat-i-Islami held a demonstration at Paretabad.
Sunni Tehrik led by Khalid Qadri and Khalid Hassan Atari, Anjuman-i-Sarfaroshan-i-Islam led by Shabbir Ahmed and Asmatullah, Sanakhawan-i-Rasool (PBUH) led by Gulshan-i-Illahi, Iqbal Qaimkhani and Q. Mohammad Hakim held protests outside the press club and demanded expulsion of the European ambassadors.
KHAIRPUR: Different religious organizations, including Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat and Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam, took out a procession and staged a demonstration at the Panj Gulla chowk after the Friday prayers against the publication of the cartoons.
The procession was led by Maulana Abdul Karim Mari, Murshid Shaheen Goraya and Aijaz Jeewan.
DADU: On call of the Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat, around 2,000 people took out a procession here on Friday against the European countries for publishing the sacrilegious sketches of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
BADIN: Activists of religious and political parties and traders took out a procession here on Friday against publication of the sketches.
A large number of people marched through the Quaid Azam road and gathered at the Kazia wah chowk.
They raised slogans against the European countries.
They unanimously resolved that the government should stop diplomatic ties with the countries responsible for publication of the blasphemous cartoons of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
They also urged people to boycott goods of the anti-Islamic countries.
SHIKARPUR: Protest rallies were taken out by activists of Jamat-i-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and their affiliated organizations here on Friday against publication of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) sketches in European newspapers.
The procession was led by JI city amir Maulana Sadaruddin Mahar.
It was taken out from the Furqania Madrasah and terminated at the Lakhi Gate tower chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI and JUI leaders condemned the publication of caricatures and demanded from the Pakistan government to approach the UN and Organization of Islamic Conference to take action against the publishers of the blasphemous cartoon.
