LAHORE, Feb 7: Representatives of major political and religious parties will meet in Islamabad on Feb 11 to adopt a joint strategy on the issue of blasphemous cartoons published by some Western papers.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the representatives of around 20 parties and seminaries here on Tuesday.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Maulana Amir Hamza, Abdul Gaffar Aziz, Engineer Salimullah, Maulana Amjad Khan and others said bodies of lawyers and journalists would also be invited to the Islamabad meeting to be jointly hosted by the PPP-P, MMA, PML-N, Tehrik-i-Insaaf and Jamaatud Daawa.

The Ittehad Tanzeemul Madaris Deeniya as well as the Jamia Naeemia would also lend support to the meeting to be held at MMA MNA Mian Muhammad Aslam’s residence.

The meeting’s objective was to launch an organized movement against “the planned conspiracy by the West to instigate the Muslims,” they said.

Asked if the ruling PML would also be invited to the meeting, they said it was yet to be decided.

The religious parties would also hold two protest demonstrations— one outside the Lahore Press Club and the other at Data Darbar Chowk, while resolutions would be passed at all Juma congregations for condemning the blasphemy, they said.

They condemned the government for refusing to call back its envoy from Denmark.
