ROAD PROJECTS: The ongoing road construction work in Karachi has become a source of traffic congestion, noise pollution and immense inconvenience. These projects are initiated without proper coordination and with no regard for the daily lives of millions of people. The authorities should ensure better communication with the public, and minimise disruption. Adequate signage, clear alternative routes, and timely update on the progress of a project would improve the current situation. Karachi deserves modern and efficient infrastructure, but not at the cost of the wellbeing of its residents. The authorities should make the road construction process more manageable for everyone.

POWER CUTS IN PUNJAB: The current wave of unannounced and prolonged power outages is testing the patience of people across Punjab. Besides, the state of governance and service delivery is pretty bad, too. While helpline numbers are mentioned on every electricity bill to facilitate the customers, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) does not respond to the online complaints filed by the citizens. What is the purpose of this so-called complaint management centre if no one is available to attend the complaints and address the grievances? The department concerned should resolve these issues and ensure smooth power supply and efficient customer service for the people of Punjab.

OPEN MANHOLES: The covers of many a manhole in Karachi have been missing, posing a threat to the citizens. These lids are usually stolen by
drug addicts who sell them to scrap dealers. Ironically, no action has ever been taken against the culprits. These thieves can now be seen removing iron and steel structures, steel railings, telephone and electric cables in broad daylight. Is there anyone who may do something about it?
