TAXILA: The body of a woman was found while an attempt to abduct a 15-year-old girl was foiled in the limits of Hassanabdal police station on Friday.

In the first incident, the body of a woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, was found stuffed in a gunny bag on the bank of Haro River in Bhallar Jogi village in the Jehri Kass chowki area.

According to sources, some peasants working in the field spotted the body and informed the police who arrived at the scene and shifted it to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

During examination of the body, it was found that the woman, who is yet to be identified, was strangled to death and her body was later thrown along Haro River.

In another incident, six suspects, among them two women, were arrested for trying to kidnap a teenage girl in Burhan area on Friday.

Ghulam Fareed reported to the police that his daughter was engaged to Mohammad Rehman one year ago, but the engagement was broken off around a month back. On Friday, Rehman along with his relatives Mohammad Hashim, Umer Shahzad, Zeeshan Iqbal and two women abducted his daughter in a van, he alleged.

Some villagers who saw the kidnapping called the police on helpline 15 who then intercepted the van and recovered the girl. The six suspects were sent behind bars after registration of a case against them.

Separately, Fatehjang police caught five people red handed while gambling. However two suspects managed to escape.

Police seized gambling tools and bet money amounting to Rs305,000 during the raid. Besides, Pinidigheb police arrested a man in an attempted murder case.

Waleed Iqbal told police that he was building a wall around his land when Mohammad Rafeeq came there and threatened to kill him. He also beat him up.

Narcotics seized

Police arrested drug sellers and seized over 20kg of narcotics from them during a crackdown in Taxila and Wah.

Talking to newsmen on Friday, Sub-divisional Police Officer Taxila circle DSP Ghulam Asghar Chandia said during the crackdown against narcotics-selling mafia, police successfully rounded up 11 drug peddlers, including a woman peddler who had been selling narcotics to women as well as around educational institutions in the area.

DSP Chandia said raids were carried out on their dens by a team of Wah Saddar police station which recovered 5.45kg hashish from Zarshad Khan, 5kg hashish from Ihtesham and 2kg hashish from Zubaida Bibi.

He further said Wah Cantonment police recovered 0.5kg hashish from Shahid, 1.46kg hashish from Ghulam Mustafa, 1.4kg hashish from Fareedon, 0.6kg hashish from Ajab Khan, 1.56kg hashish from Qasim, 0.51kg hashish from Mehboob and 0.51kg hashish was recovered from Mohammad Arslan.
