KARACHI: A wounded seminary teacher died during treatment at a hospital on Monday, police said.

They suspected some personal enmity behind the murder of Qari Khurram Shahzad, religious teacher of the madressah in Mithadar, who was shot at and wounded by armed men riding a motorbike near a marriage hall in N-Block last week. His two colleagues, Qari Mohammed Altaf and Qari Mohammed Madani, were also injured in the attack.

Qari Shahzad was under treatment at the JPMC where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment on Monday, said Taimuria police SHO Faisal Rafi.

He confirmed that two other teachers of the madressah had suffered minor injuries. The SHO said they suspected that the murder was motivated by some personal enmity.

The police said the religious scholars had gone there on the invitation of a student to a wedding ceremony when three suspects riding a motorbike opened indiscriminate firing on them.

The funeral prayers of the victim were held at the madressah in Mithadar, which was attended by the citizens and students. He was laid to rest at Mewa Shah Graveyard. Father of four children, he originally hailed from Sargodha in Punjab.
