CUMBERSOME PROCESS: Sorting out any matter related to any document for any purpose at the University of Karachi requires super-human energy, effort and, most of all, patience. For instance, a simple degree verification process is amazingly cumbersome. And it is a verification of a document, a degree in this case, that has been issued by the university itself. The university administration should introduce a conve- nient method for verification at least.

AMAZING CRITERIA: The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) recently announced jobs in the School Education Department. The criteria for the post of assistant directors (ADs) and deputy director (DDs) were rather amazing as the maximum age limit for the former was 35 years and for the latter it was 28 years. Since DD is a higher position than AD, it is only logical that the age specifications should have been in the inverse order. The criteria should be adjusted immediately.

DACOITIES IN KACHA: The response of Sindh Police to the rising tide of criminal activities in kacha areas is disappointing. Besides conducting robberies in broad daylight, the dacoits are abducting people and sharing their videos on social media to spread fear. But the police have failed to stop such incidents and rescue the abducted. The people of kacha are living in fear and losing faith in the police. The Sindh government should provide the resources the police need to do the job correctly.

SEWERAGE ISSUES: Overflowing sewage in Karachi is a major problem. The old and ill-maintained system is unable to handle the growing population, resulting in overflowing sewage and contaminated water. This has led to the spread of diseases which is a public health threat. The government needs to address the issue.
