LAHORE, Feb 1: The police shot dead an alleged robber in an “encounter” at Iqbal Town on Friday.

Two policemen, including an SHO, sustained injuries during the exchange of fire with the robbers, the police claimed.

The police claimed they followed a tip-off and raided a park in Khyber Block at around 10.30am where four suspects were meeting. The alleged robbers, according to the police, opened fire on the police party when the latter tried to search them.

The police retaliated, killing one of the suspects. Iqbal Town SHO Muhammad Azam and constable Amir Ali sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital where the condition of Amir Ali was stated to be critical.

The remaining three suspects, however, managed to escape unhurt. The body of the deceased, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.
