GUJRAT: A woman poisoned her three sons due to poverty, resulting in the death of two of them at the hospital, while the eldest one survived at Chak Raib in Malakwal police precincts, Mandi Bahauddin, on Thursday.

Reports said Mehwish Bibi administered poisonous pills to all her three sons- Subhan Ahmed (7), Sufian Ahmed (5) and Muhammad Awais (10).

The children were initially taken to Malakwal tehsil headquarters hospital, where doctors later referred them to Mandi Bahauddin DHQ hospital. However, the family later transferred all three children to Children’s Hospital, Lahore, where Subhan and Sufian succumbed to the poisoning while Awais survived and was discharged from the hospital. The bodies were shifted to Malakwal THQ hospital for autopsy.

Police have arrested the suspect after registering a case against her under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, on the report of Sagheer Ahmed, the paternal uncle of the boys.
