LAHORE, Feb 2: The probe into causes of Jan 29 derailment of the Lahore non-stop (108-down) near Domeli station will be completed within two weeks.

“The Federal Government Inspector of Railways (FGIR) has begun the inquiry at the Domeli station,” Pakistan Railways chairman Shakil Durrani told newsmen at the headquarter here on Thursday after presiding over a meeting of the PR Board executive committee.

He said the inspector-general of railways police had been asked by the committee to arrest at the earliest the robbers, who looted the salaries of Mughalpura Workshop employees.

A three-member committee had been set up in every PR division for leasing out excess land. Comprising one official each of the PR marketing department and the vigilance cell, besides the divisional commercial officer, the committees would ascertain the market rate of the excess land in their respective divisions and on its basis determine the lease rate, Mr Durrani said.

The railways would be converted into a corporation during the current year, he said, and added: “No employee will be sacked.”

The meeting also discussed the modalities of reviving the Safari train, which used to run between Peshawar and Landikotal, he said.

The executive committee also expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made for resumption of the Khokhrapar-Munabao rail service, the chairman said.

General Manager (Operations) Saleemur Rehman Akhoond, Member Finance Javed Akhtar Sheikh, Railways Police Inspector-General Maj Zaheer Ahmad (retired) and all principal officers of the organization attended the meeting.
