LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has launched investigation against Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) former vice chancellor Dr Athar Mahboob on charges of corruption and misuse of authority.

According to the ACE, Dr Mahboob, during his tenure as IUB vice chancellor, allegedly made illegal recruitment of 197 junior clerks and awarded furniture contract worth Rs308 million for the university’s academic block to his favourite contractors.

He is also accused of making payments of Rs5m to his staff without following due legal procedure.

The IUB has been in the limelight for drugs and obscene videos scandal recently. The caretaker Punjab government had requested the Lahore High Court chief justice to form a judicial commission to investigate the IUB scam.
