HARIPUR, Feb 1: Eight residents of the T&T Colony were booked and three of them arrested here on Wednesday for leading a protest against disconnection of power supply to scores of houses in the colony.

The colony administration also disconnected water supply to the protesters’ houses. The administration had snapped electricity connections of 200 houses without any prior notice against which the residents took out a protest procession.

Later, FIRs were registered under sections 147/500 and 506/500 of the Pakistan Penal Code by the City police against the eight leaders of the protesters.

Besides, according to Nadeem Lodhi and Chanzeb, residents of the colony, the administration in a bid to pressurize them had disconnected water connection of their houses.

They said that they had not been paying electricity bills because the administration had been issuing them bills at commercial rate instead of domestic rate. On the other hand, the colony administration said that the protesters had defaulted on power and water dues, which justified the action. Meanwhile, the police arrested three of the eight booked people whereas five others have got bail before arrest from the court of Judicial Magistrate Adil Zeb Khan till Feb 11.—Correspondent
