KARACHI: An influential person from Balochistan, Zubair Shahwani, and others were booked on Wednesday over charges of killing dissident PTI lawmaker Aslam Abro’s brother, Mohammed Akram Abro, and his son, Shaharyar Abro, in Defence Housing Authority recently over some ‘old enmity.’

The FIR was registered on complaint of Sanwal Khan Abro, the cousin of the deceased Akram Abro. The Defence police have invoked sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to contents of the FIR seen by Dawn, the complainant said that his cousin, along with his son and others, had left their bungalow in Phase-VI on July 26 in a Vigo. They were on their way to their village in Jacobabad district when eight suspects, traveling in a car and on a motorbike, opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle in DHA. As a result, Mohammed Akram Abro, his son Shaharyar Abro, Sardar Abdullah Abro and Irshad Panhwar were critically injured.

They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced the father and son dead on arrival.

The complainant said that their ‘old enemies’, Zubair Shahwani, Sahib Shahwani, Naseer Shahwani and others had given threats of dire consequences (making attempt on their/Abros’ life) to them.

“It is my claim that our old enemies, named Zubair Shahwani and his guards Sanaullah and Mujeeb, along with five other unknown persons had attacked the vehicle of my cousin Mohammed Akram Abro, resulting in the killing of Akram and his son and injuries to Sardar Abdullah Abro and Irshad Panhwar,” the complainant said.

As per the FIR, the double murder was carried out at the behest of their ‘old enemies’ named Sahib Khan, Naseer Ahmed and other unknown hostile persons.

The complainant said it had come to their knowledge that two other unknown persons were also involved in reconnaissance of their residence on their motorbike prior to the armed attack on the victims’ vehicle.
